  Slowworm (Anguis fragilis)

Not a snake at all - a legless lizard. Widespread, often seen in gardens and totally harmless. This is an adult pair the male is sporting the blue speckles occasionally seen.

And this is a baby slowworm. Only around 75-100mms long when born with their beautiful silver or gold metallic sheen they look like living jewellery.
